This is how I remember professional wrestling. This clip, borrowed from a fellow fan was from a show in 1978.
As a teenager in New York, I would watch Championship Wrestling on channel 9 Saturday nights at midnight, then All Star Wrestling on the same channel Sundays.
By today's standards this was boring. There were a lot of headlocks and leg locks and people occasionally won matches using a body slam. Then there was Vince McMahon Jr. Vince, who was the sole announcer for a lot of years was like listening to water boil. Most of the matches featured featured enhancement talent. Back in the 70s, fans called them anything from jabronis to preliminary bums, but they were there to show off the talents of the main-eventer or mid-card wrestler. No music or fancy ring entrances. Nothing like the extravagant stuff you see today where every wrestler has a musical following. The promos back then were usually simple one-on-one interviews.
Yes, the program was definitely slower paced back then, but I looked forward to watching.
