BLOG ENTRY #86 FIRE ON THE SUBWAY

This is one of the reasons I don't ride the R46, R62 or R68 trains.  These are the older model subways that look like the Long Island Railroad.  Granted, this was one of the newer models, but it makes me shutter to think that it could have been on one of those trains where the doors in between cars lock.  Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured.

Personally, I try to limit my time on the subways.  Too many incidents.

BLOG ENTRY #85: THE SNOWBALL FIGHT

As a little boy I was taught to respect the police.  Not necessarily to like them, but to respect them.  As I got older I learned to add some fear in that behavior.  Not that every cop in the street will brutalize you but they have the power to kill you.   So this snowball fight incident puzzles me.  But then, a lot of things puzzle me. Some of the same people who claim to hate the police will make videos mocking or teasing them.

The snowball fight looked like fun, but should never had involved any snow touching a New York City Officer.  That was disrespectful.  It also promotes a boldness in some in the future that you can throw objects at them.  Whether I like them or not, I need the police to command respect.  I am glad the situation didn't get worse.

So, even though this incident was just a snowball fight and not a riot, people engaged in assaulting cops need to addressed, whether it be a fine or summons.  If an officer was injured, then the assailant needs to be held accountable.

BLOG ENTRY # 84: THE OMNY CARD RIPOFF

The video is very true.  I recently had my own adventure with OMNY I shared with MTA in a survey.  I have a copy of it below

I used my OMNY card i the front of the bus as I boarded.  The person ahead of me tapped twice and the card did not read.  I had to tap twice and got the reading "TAP AGAIN".  I tapped a third time and it cleared me.  When I was about to get off the bus at White Plains Road, MTA Fare Enforcement greeted us and he asked for our method of payment.  I always pay, so I didn't worry...until the officer used his partner's device to scan my OMNY card and it showed "Invalid fare".  The officer then lectured me on making certain I press the card against the reader.  I let hm know that I had to tap three times to get a payment through.  There were no further issues and I credit the officer's professionalism.  I WILL say that the ONY readers are trash.  And because there is no information when you tap, there is no way of knowing your balance, if a fare was taken twice and in y case, if a fare was even taken.  With the wrong officer I could have been fined or detained.  I could have had to pay another fare.   About 30 minutes later I used the card o the Bx30 and had no problem. MTA needs to fix the situation with the reader and information given.  Metrocards at least give that.  I feel ripped off.

END OF SURVEY

Now...MTA is already losing tons of money on the city bus.  On an average ride I observe 25% of fare compliance of ANY kind.  This means OMNY card use, Metrocard or coins (which may or may not equal the appropriate fare).  Roughly 75% of people I observe just walk past the driver.   About 5% of kids under 21 pay, even though they are given fare cards from their school.  Half the adults with a child  don't pay.  My point...better use of the OMNY card reader MIGHT help  with lost fares, especially since there are people who tap five and six times to get a reading.

BLOG ETRY #83 MALL TEEN MADNESS

My late mother would have disemboweled me if I was even present during this mess.  Amazingly, only 17 arrests.
Decades ago, parents would have held their kids accountable some how.  A lot of you are not into corporal punishment.  I say to each his own, as long as you don't brutalize the child and leave marks.  Timeouts and punishments alone don't work for everyone.
What if the police had to hurt someone?  What if a scared person shot one of the teenagers?

BLOG ENTRY #82: PAY ATTENTION TO THIS GUY

BLOG ENTRY #81: Cuss Creep

A LONG time ago, I used to review movies.  I don't think I was ever close to being as good as Cuss Creep.   Granted, he does give a few spoilers here and there , but he is interesting and unique and fun to listen to.  Ahd if you don't like what he likes, he doesn't give a f**k.

BLOG ENTR #80 Short....biopics vs documentaries

I prefer documentaries and docuseries over biopics.  Generally, documentaries  offer facts and interview actual witnesses.  Biopics water down information with good acting.

I prefer to be educated over being entertained

BLOG ENTRY #79

This is why I am a weirdo. Nicki Minaj recently joined Trump and fans lost their mind.  This is why I one wrote that I follow nobody.  I may like people and their ideas but I am not a fan of anyone to the extent that their political choices have me bugging out.  Snoop Dogg supposedly performed last year for Donald Trump, creating a controversy.

There are plenty of celebrities , sports figures, etc., that I like but that's as far as it goes.  Your records may have e singing a tune, but in my mind, you could be a dirtbag.  I am not disillusioned.

BLOG ENTRY#78: Mini McDonald's rant

Years ago McDonald's would have good deals going during the first few months of the year.  Granted, these deals weren't necessary when Big Macs were less than $2, but over the past few years, I have grown accustomed to "buy one get one $1 Big Macs" or 2 for $6 deals.  Today, I went to McDonald's for the first time this year and thought I was going to buy a fish sandwich for over $10.  Come to find out that this was the value meal price.  NO ala carte price was listed.

So to ME, McDonald's isn't interested in selling food at affordable prices.  They want to gouge every cent from the customers.  Probably why they insist on asking if you want the meal.

I paid a little more than $6 for my fish sandwich.

BLOG ENTRY #77 CABIN FEVER

From Merriam Webster:

cabin fever

noun:

extreme irritability and restlessness from living in isolation or a confined indoor area for a prolonged time

There is truth to this.  From mid-November, I have been confined to my apartment, mostly because of weather conditions.  It started out being too cold, then recently, we had the snow.  Normally, I would go to the Mid-Manhattan Library about twice a week.   Since November, I have only been there twice.  So I have been in the apartment  most of the time.  It finally caught up with me and I thought I was going stir crazy.  I made it to my local library.

Yes, I could have come here weeks ago, but I don't like how the library is run here in the Bronx.  A lot of noise and a lack of space.  Still, it helped to get out.

BLOG ENTRY #76: OLD AGE AT 61

I wish someone would have told me about the unpleasant parts of reaching 60.  I have neuropathy, dry-eye and suspected sciatica.

BLOG ETRY #75

Story is a little old and I don't know if the policy is still in effect but I support it.

PSA: Biopic vs Documentaries

I don't like biopics.  I prefer documentaries. A docuseries is fine. I prefer Broadway plays.  I am not wild about musicals. I have a L...
