BLOG ENTRY #57 ALC (another lame conservative), but with interesting points

 Why do conservatives, and particularly Black conservatives, feel like they have to insult everyone else to make their point.  This dude actually had my interest.  I even agreed with him on a point, maybe two regarding the mayoral candidate, then he had to lower himself to name calling, which automatically makes me feel that you don't really have valid points.

One of Mamdami's campaign pledges calls for a tax increase on the most wealthy New Yorkers.  Even I wonder if those New Yorkers would stay in the city if that passes.

It's not that I don't want an affordable New York.  I do, but that genie is out of the bottle. Affordable rent is going to be nearly unreachable.  I predict that affordable rent in the five boroughs will range from $1200 a month in the Bronx, to $2000 in the other boroughs.  Yes, there will always be a few "cheap" places around, but not enough to advertise.  

But I digress.  Conservatives should realize that they might actually move people to their way of thinking if they left the bad comedy alone and just spit facts.

BLOG ENTRY #56: I voted

 On day 4 of early voting in New York, I voted.   After the results in a couple of weeks, I will decide if I am switching parties.

BLOG ENTRY #55: NO MORE COINS ON THE BUS

 

My cousin alerted me to this story and after investigating, it is true.   You won't be able to pay your fare on the bus with coins in 2026. That's if you pay your fare at all   MTA has officially switched to cashless payments.  You will  have to use OMNI or your credit or debit card.

I've been ready for this since the beginning of 2025.  Personally, I think it is a scam by MTA.  Just my opinion.  

I already use OMNI, in part, because I don't want to use my debit or credit card to get on the bus or subway.  Using it to pay for OMNI (or the soon to be gone Metrocard) is as far as I go.  I already have issues with MTA possibly double charging me with OMNI.

Personally, I think cashless payments are an easier way to track you.  It may be the new way to catch fare evaders, too.  On a recent ride on the Bx 6 SBS, MTA enforcers boarded the bus and checked if people had OMNI.  They escorted a few riders off the bus.  A month earlier on the M34, the enforcers boarded and used a device to check the OMNI card.

Older New Yorkers, who may not have a debit or credit card may have issues.

BLOG ENTRY #54: EARLY VOTING

 

Early voting for New York City Mayor started this past weekend.  I should be voting on Tuesday or Wednesday (today is Monday).  Unless a major incident occurs, I am still going Cuomo.

I almost considered Curtis Sliwa.  Almost. I think he would be the toughest on crime, but I don't trust him.

That's the thing with all three candidates; I like them, but..........

I don't think that any of them can come through on their campaign promises.  South of White Plains, I don't think New York will ever be affordable.

Unless Mamdani  pays for it himself, the buses will not be free.  And I think Mamdani will be useless against street crime.  

Of the three candidates, Andrew Cuomo is the only one with the experience and the balls to deal with president.  Donald Trump will pick at Zohran Mamdani every week.

In order for New York to function properly, you need a balance of capitalism and socialism.  We are too far gone to think companies are going to willfully lose money.  However, this city will be unlivable without stronger social policies.

BLOG # 53: Listening to a Black conservative

 Some time ago, I posted a link to Officer Tatum's you tube channel.  I don't follow him, but I do enjoy hearing the views of other people.  On one hand I like Tatum for being different and sharing different opinions.  On the other hand, he is like other typical Black Conservatives in that it seems that he has to lower himself to insulting liberals and Black people.  Granted, I like in a Black community and I see a lot that I don't like.  I cannot see using my platform to insult them.  I don't see him calling out conservative whites, so to me he is just trying to get brownie points from them.  I'll continue  to occasionally listen and pick out points where he actually makes sense and is not trying to put on a show.

BLOG ENTRY #52: SUBWAY MADNESS

 

I make it a point to travel by the express bus or Uber.  I am riding the local bus less and less and I am trying to limit taking the subway.     I was doing this before Mr. Thompson shared his findings.  After seeing videos like this, I will make sure I take the express bus or Uber.  I don't want to spend hours stuck in a tunnel or worse.
